SMIC has quietly established a new wholly-owned subsidiary, signaling a strategic push into advanced semiconductor technologies.

According to business registration data, Shanghai Xin 3D Semiconductor Co., Ltd. was recently incorporated with a registered capital of $432 million. The company is fully owned by SMIC Holding Corporation, reflecting the parent company’s direct control and long-term commitment.
The new entity’s scope covers IC manufacturing, IC sales, and chip product distribution, along with import and export capabilities—forming a vertically integrated business structure. Industry observers speculate that the “3D” in its name points to a focus on 3D integration and advanced packaging, aligning with current technology trends in the semiconductor sector.
