According to TF International analyst Kuo Ming‑chi, Apple has officially started development of A/M series processors on Intel’s 18A‑P process, targeting low‑end or older iPhone, iPad, and Mac models. iPhone chips account for ~80% of the related orders, matching device shipment ratios.

Intel’s 18A‑P roadmap calls for small‑scale testing in 2026, volume production in 2027, growth in 2028, and decline in 2029. Intel’s yield target for 2027 is 50–60%+ . Even if successful, TSMC will still supply >90% of Apple’s chips in the near term.

Apple’s move is driven by TSMC’s capacity tilt toward AI, reducing priority for consumer electronics. By building a second source, Apple reduces single‑dependency risk and gains bargaining power.

For Intel, landing Apple’s orders is a strategic chance to gain advanced node experience, though profitability remains distant. TSMC’s lead is still solid, but customers across the industry are now actively diversifying foundry sources.

ICgoodFind : Apple-Intel 18A-P deal reshapes the foundry landscape. Single‑source dependency is over – multi‑sourcing is the new norm.
